CenitDesktop is hardware and support helping to take the first Super Aguri F1 Team SA05 Formula One car from concept to grid in just 100 days.
CenitDesktop, a leading supplier of collaborative Design and Manufacturing solutions provided software, hardware and support helping to take the first Super Aguri F1 Team SA05 Formula One car from concept to grid in just 100 days. The project involved migrating initial CATIA V4 data to V5 and complex modelling to transform an existing chassis into a 2006 specification F1 competitor that satisfied all of the new FIA regulations concerning design and safety. CenitDesktop supported every step of the project, providing fast, flexible assistance whenever necessary.
Indeed CFO and Company Secretary Wayne Humphreys commented that 'Without the assistance and support of CenitDesktop it would have been difficult to get the cars to Bahrain for the first Grand Prix of 2006' The engineering Team utilised CATIA V5, the world's leading PLM software, as a comprehensive product development solution to enable the fast, reliable evolution of its car designs.
CenitDesktop is a leading supplier and supporter of Dassault Systemes CATIA PLM software and was able to offer significant experience and resources to assist Super Aguri F1 Team'S engineers in this project.
CenitDesktop's first challenge was to help oversee and implement a seamless migration from CATIA V4 to V5.
Upgrades of this kind could have lead to delays in product development that the F1 Team could ill afford but with CenitDesktop's assistance this was completed quickly and efficiently.
Chris Palmer, Account Manager at CenitDesktop explains: 'We worked in complete partnership with the engineering Team at Super Aguri F1 Team, and were on call to assist where required to ensure the project remained on track throughout the transition process.
It has been a fascinating time for ourselves to see how the Team has grown from 4 people in November to where they are now and we feel privileged that Super Aguri F1 Team chose CenitDesktop to be its supplier since F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport.' The transformation of the initial chassis required the outsourcing of much of the production, so it was vital to maintain accuracy and integrity at every stage.
CenitDesktop was able to bring their expertise into play to help oversee the transfer of CATIA files between suppliers and partners to ensure the successful translation of engineering data.
'F1 can mean very short development and manufacturing times and companies have to able to respond very quickly,' says Palmer, 'This relies on close partnerships between companies and suppliers and an ability to communicate effectively.
CATIA is ideally suited to this kind of high precision, customised environment, where attention to detail and quick responses are very important.'
